Our DVD player stopped playing DVD's so I decided to open it up and see what I could see.
LCD Screen
This LCD screen I got from AllElectronics for only $4.50. It is 640x400 pixels. You can see it next to the keyboard for a size comparison. It is not color, but for only $4.50 you can't go wrong.
Closeup of Solder Job on LCD
This is a closeup of the actual soldering that I did on the LCD display. I just soldered in some wires so I could plug it into my bread board easily.
LCD Hook Up
This is my 20 character x 4 line LCD display that I got from SparkFun. In this picture I have connected it to my breadboard with an ATMega168.
My First Solder Attempt
So a couple weekends ago I finally got around to trying out the soldering iron that I was borrowing from Levi at work. He let me borrow his Radio Shack Mini Butane Gas-Powered Iron. It was okay, but I decided to just get one that you plug in to the wall so that I don't have to deal with refilling it. Also the gas powered soldering iron seemed to have a lot of heat coming out of the sides which caused it to start to burn the board I was working on.
